Climate resilience is rapidly becoming one of the defining infrastructure challenges of our time.

Europe is the world’s fastest-warming continent, and recent heatwaves, droughts, wildfires and flooding are placing growing pressure on cities, businesses, public finances and essential infrastructure. The European Environment Agency says climate risks are already threatening areas including energy, water, transport, infrastructure, financial stability and public health.

A Reuters analysis published today highlights the scale of the adaptation challenge. While enormous investment is being directed toward reducing emissions, significantly more will also be required to prepare buildings, cities and infrastructure for the physical effects of a changing climate.

This changes the way infrastructure needs to be considered. The question is no longer only: How do we build more sustainably? It is also: How do we build systems that remain safe, reliable and effective as environmental conditions change?

For JW Global, resilient infrastructure means thinking beyond the requirements of today and designing for the realities of tomorrow.
Adaptation is not separate from sustainable development. It is becoming part of how we build.
